1. Electric Vehicle Industry Facing Continued Gov’t Dependence

Electric vehicles are the next big thing for the auto industry and environmentalists alike. But with the Obama Administration’s goal of getting 1,000,000 EVs on the road by 2015, that will only represent 0.5% of the total vehicles on the road. And to make it happen, billions will be required to be poured into an industry with unproven demand.

The 2011 Tesla Model S appeared on stage with David Letterman last month. Viewers had a chance to see the car and even a few took test drives. 4. GM CEO Says Lion’s Share of Cars will Run on Gas in 10 Years

Dr. Lyle Dennis, founder of GM-Volt.com, interviews Fritz Henderson CEO of General Motors, just days after GM declares bankruptcy. When asked what percentage of GM’s vehicles he expects to be electric in 10 years and if he is fully committed to electrification of the automobile and getting this country off of oil, he replied that GM is “committed to being a part of the solution.” The commitment he advised is broad beyond purely electrics but also improving gas car fuel efficiency. He said that even in 10 years “the lion’s share” of GM vehicles will use the internal combustion engine, yet they will be “far more efficient.”
